What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine refers to practicing patient care via a digital platform instead of the provider and patient being physically together.

Generally, this is a video visit via a device that connects to the internet such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Telemedicine

Telemedicine allows health care professionals to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients at a distance using telecommunications technology.

The approach has been through a striking evolution in the last decade and it is becoming an increasingly important part of the American healthcare infrastructure.

Telemedicine Applications

There are few limitations to how telemedicine can be applied. Here are a few examples of how it is being used today in medicine.

  • Follow-up visits
  • Remote chronic disease management
  • Remote post-hospitalization care
  • Preventative care support

What types of medical issues can receive treatment with telemedicine?

Our team at BHWC offers telemedicine visits to manage chronic conditions, assess medications, and conduct follow-up visits.

You may also pursue a Telemedicine appointment for issues such as but not limited to:

  • Headaches
  • Fever, cough, and flu type symptoms
  • Skin infections or rashes
  • Some women's and men's health care questions
  • Diabetes management
  • Cholesterol and other blood test reviews
  • Fatigue

Please contact our office to discuss the best type of appointment for your medical conditions. Of course, life-threatening events, such as heart attack, stroke, and deep wounds, aren't appropriate for telemedicine visits.

Telemedicine Benefits

Using telemedicine as an alternative to in-person visits has a host of benefits for patients and providers alike. One of the apparent benefits of telehealth is convenience. You conduct your appointment from work or home.

Patients enjoy:
  • Flexible appointments. Less time away from work
  • No travel expenses
  • Less interference with child or elder care responsibilities
  • Privacy
  • No exposure to other potentially contagious patients. Ability to maintain social distance while still getting your healthcare needs met.

Here at BHWC we utilize the Doxy.me application which is simple and easy to use. There is no need to download specific software or create an account. You use any phone, tablet, or computer that has a camera and/or microphone. Our staff members will walk you through this quick process prior to your appointment.

Telehealth visits are all private just as in-office visits. All data during the visit is encrypted. Doxy.me adheres to all HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR data privacy requirements. Call us, or reach out via one of our many platforms to schedule your telehealth visit today!

For your convenience, our office is open 6 days a week. While we encourage you to make an appointment, walk-ins are also welcome. To schedule your appointment, please call (210) 544-5715 or click here to request an appointment online.
